Minimal assistance is also available for food, child care, transportation and work clothing and supplies. The purpose of these programs is to stabilize families in their home or re-house families that are homeless.

Polk County Emergency Management
The Polk County Emergency Management Office makes an organized effort to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from all-hazard emergencies. This office works with the Federal Emergency Management Agency(FEMA), Minnesota Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (MnHSEM), area law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, and city emergency managers to coordinate the plans and operations of the various components of emergency response. This office is responsible for producing and maintaining an approved All-Hazard Emergency Operations Plan for Polk County as well as the Hazard Mitigation Plan.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
If you feel you are in a crisis, whether or not you are thinking about killing yourself, please call the Lifeline. People have called us for help with substance abuse, economic worries, relationship and family problems, sexual orientation, illness, getting over abuse, depression, mental and physical illness, and even loneliness.

24-Hour Crisis Line
Crisis Call Center's 24-hour crisis line is to provide a safe, non-judgmental source of support for individuals in any type of crisis. In addition to the crisis hotline, crisis intervention is also available through text message. Services include: 24-hour help hotline, suicide prevention, child abuse reporting, elder abuse reporting, substance abuse and additional resources.

Victim Assistance Program
Facilitate and provides information regarding crisis counseling, support for criminal justice process, crime prevention, referrals to appropriate agencies for counseling, social services assistance, transportation for victims to attend court appearances or other appointments related to victimization. The mission of Polk County Coordinated Victim Services is to serve persons who are victims of crime in Polk County, minimizing the trauma suffered by victims, providing accurate information on victim's rights, assisting individuals in implementing these rights, and developing cooperation between agencies who deal with victims.

Known locally as fuel assistance, this program helps income eligible households with their home energy bills. Assistance may include bill payment assistance, emergency assistance and energy related home repairs – fixing or replacing furnaces for those families that own their home.
